Sanyo PLV Z5 Home Theatre LCD Projector
Straight out of the box, the Sanyo Z5 LCD projector should impress and accommodate most movie enthusiasts. With its exceptionally high contrast ratio of 10,000:1 the black levels are deeper and colour's and highlights are more defined.
The PLV Z5 is visually identical to its predecessor the PLV Z4 but with a good handful of image improvements. Presets like "Brilliant Cinema", "Pure Cinema" and "Living Mode" (to name three of the seven presets), adjusts the lumens (brightness), colour and contrast to give a suitable setting for various video sources. Add to this, user-presets and the Z5 is shaping up as a strong contender in the projector arena.
It also has the same motorised lens cover that automatically opens when powered on and then closes when the power is turned off. This helps to keep dust off the lens and saves you having to fiddle with a lens cover every time you wish to use the Z5.
The rear connection panel remains almost the same with the addition of an extra HDMI port, allowing the Sanyo Z5 to have two digital sources connected without an additional HDMI switching device. Other inputs include 2 x Component, 1 x S-Video, 1 x Composite Video, 1 x VGA Port and a service port. More than enough for most home theatre setups. |
One of the great features of the Sanyo Z5 is the manual lens shift. The position of the image can be shifted 150% below or above the lens, or up to 50% of the projected images width to either the left or right side, allowing for several varied mounting options. The flexibility of the Z5 is vast and should be easy to integrate into most home cinema environments.
The Sanyo PLV Z5 utilise's a dual-iris system with an iris on both the lamp and lens, this allows the Z5's lumen output to be extremely variable. Opening them allowed us to comfortably view Sky TV during the day with moderate ambient daylight entering the room.
The projectors menu system is bursting with features and is simple and comfortable to use. You will soon be navigating around the many features and settings within no time at all and find yourself saving your favourite setup's within minutes of turning the projector on.
The Sanyo PLV Z5 LCD projector is one of the best projectors we've come across in ages and it would stand up well against some of the competition costing up to 4 times the price tag of this entry level LCD projector.
Improved colour performance coupled with an outstanding contrast ratio enables the Z5 to deliver accurate skin tones, defined blacks and an overall natural image across a wide spectrum of video sources.
